Celebrating B Corp Month with Legacy Vacation Resorts

by LEGACY VACATION RESORTS Mar 1, 2025

March is B Corp Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the growing movement of businesses committed to balancing purpose and profit. At Legacy Vacation Resorts, we are proud to be a Certified B Corporation™, joining a global community of companies that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. This month, we want to share what being a B Corp means to us, highlight our ongoing sustainability initiatives, and inspire our guests and readers to support businesses that are making a positive impact on the world.

What is a B Corp?

B Corporations, or B Corps, are businesses that undergo a rigorous certification process to demonstrate their commitment to social and environmental responsibility. The certification is awarded by B Lab, a nonprofit organization that evaluates companies based on their impact on workers, customers, communities, and the environment. To become a B Corp, companies must meet stringent standards and score a minimum of 80 points on the B Impact Assessment.

The B Corp community is diverse, encompassing companies of all sizes and industries, from small startups to global corporations. What unites them is a shared mission to use business as a force for good, striving to create positive change and drive systemic solutions to global challenges.

Legacy Vacation Resorts: Our B Corp Journey

At Legacy Vacation Resorts, we believe in the power of responsible travel and the importance of leaving a positive legacy for future generations. Our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility has been a core part of our values since our founding. In 2019, we achieved B Corp certification, formalizing our dedication to balancing purpose and profit.

Our Sustainability Initiatives

We are proud of the sustainability initiatives we have implemented across our resorts. Here are some of the key efforts we have undertaken:

  • Energy Efficiency: We have invested in energy-efficient technologies, such as LED lighting, smart thermostats, and energy management systems, to reduce our carbon footprint. Our goal is to minimize energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable and enjoyable experience for our guests.

  • Water Conservation: Water is a precious resource, and we are committed to conserving it. We have installed low-flow fixtures, implemented towel and linen reuse programs, and landscaped with native, drought-tolerant plants to reduce water usage.

  • Waste Reduction: We strive to minimize waste through recycling programs, composting initiatives, and reducing single-use plastics. Our resorts offer recycling bins in guest rooms and common areas, and we encourage guests to participate in our waste reduction efforts.

  • Sustainable Sourcing: We prioritize purchasing eco-friendly and locally sourced products. From using environmentally friendly cleaning supplies to offering locally sourced food and beverages in our on-site restaurants, we support sustainable practices throughout our operations.

  • Community Engagement: We believe in giving back to the communities where we operate. Our team members regularly participate in local volunteer activities, and we support various charitable organizations through donations and partnerships.

Creating Positive Guest Experiences

Our commitment to sustainability extends to the guest experience at our resorts. We believe that responsible travel can enhance your vacation and create lasting memories. Here are some ways we incorporate sustainability into our guest experience:

  • Eco-Friendly Accommodations: Our resorts feature eco-friendly accommodations designed with sustainability in mind. From energy-efficient appliances to environmentally friendly toiletries, we provide a comfortable and sustainable stay for our guests.

  • Green Activities: We offer a variety of green activities and experiences for our guests to enjoy. From guided nature walks and beach cleanups to eco-friendly tours and workshops, we encourage guests to explore and appreciate the natural beauty of our destinations.

  • Educational Programs: We believe that education is key to promoting sustainability. Our resorts offer educational programs and materials to inform guests about local ecosystems, conservation efforts, and ways they can reduce their environmental impact during their stay.

  • Sustainable Dining: Our on-site restaurants feature menus with locally sourced and organic ingredients. We also offer plant-based and sustainably sourced seafood options to cater to diverse dietary preferences and support sustainable food practices.

Inspiring Responsible Travel

As a B Corp, we are committed to inspiring responsible travel and encouraging our guests to make a positive impact. Here are some tips for traveling sustainably:

  • Choose Eco-Friendly Accommodations: Look for hotels and resorts with sustainable practices and certifications, such as B Corp certification, Green Key certification, or LEED certification.

  • Reduce Your Carbon Footprint: Opt for direct flights, use public transportation, and explore destinations on foot or by bike to reduce your carbon emissions.

  • Support Local Businesses: Dining at local restaurants, shopping at local markets, and participating in local tours and activities help support the local economy and reduce the environmental impact of transportation.

  • Minimize Waste: Bring reusable items, such as water bottles, shopping bags, and utensils, to reduce single-use plastic waste. Participate in recycling programs and dispose of waste responsibly.

  • Respect Local Culture and Environment: Learn about and respect local customs, traditions, and environmental regulations. Be mindful of your impact on the local community and natural surroundings.
